HMHEC Managing Board Expected Duties

Each appointed member of the Managing Board is expected to:

  • Serve for a period of two years;
  • Attend and actively participate in quarterly Board meetings;
  • Attend and actively participate in Advisory Council Meetings (to be held twice a year)
  • Serve on one of HMHEC’s standing committees (as appropriate);
  • Be familiar with HMHEC’s business plan and operating policies and procedures;
  • Support and make recommendations for potential funding sources, workforce development and educational needs, Advisory Council nominations, referrals of additional institutions of higher education, and referrals of adult learners; and
  • Advocate for HMHEC within the greater Hickory region and state.

Qualified Members of the Managing Board will:

  • Have a high level of credibility in the greater Hickory region and/or on a statewide basis;
  • Have strong ties to the business, industrial, and professional communities in the greater Hickory region and/or on a statewide basis;
  • Have a continuing interest in higher education, including familiarity with the mission and operations of HMHEC and its partner institutions; and
  • Not be employees in any capacity of any partner institution or of HMHEC.

Purpose of the Managing Board

The HMHEC Managing Board will, with the Director, set financial plans, policies and procedures, programming, and evaluation activities. The Board will also meet regularly with and conduct annual performance reviews of the HMHEC Director. The HMHEC Director will be responsible for planning, direction, and execution of all HMHEC activities under the direction of the Board.
